Does Nimue use Silicone in their products?

Which Nimue products has got Silicone in them and which has not

The short answer:

Yes. Nimue uses silicone as a carrier system in some of their "leave-on" products such as serums and creams, but not in "rinse-off" products such as cleansing gel.

The long answer from Nimue's own laboratories:

Here's a direct statement from Nimue R & D department:

"There are no safety concerns with regards silicones which include the following: Cyclopentasiloxanes, Hexasiloxanes, Dimethicones etc.

The current concerns relate to use in shower/body wash products where amounts can end up in the environment. Although silicones aren’t biodegradable in the traditional sense, they do degrade in the environment, where they break down into water, silicic acid and carbon dioxide. The degradation trigger for low molecular-weight silicones, such as cyclopentasiloxane, is sunlight and oxygen, but heavier weight silicones aren’t susceptible to UV, oxidation or ozone for that matter. They absorb to sludge in wastewater, hence the environmental concern.

The current SCCS (EU Commission Safety Committee on Consumer Safety) opinion regarding use in face/body creams is that it is safe for use and cannot worsen any existing medical condition due to the fact that the molecules are too large to penetrate the skin.
However, there is a recommendation (which is not yet Law) to limit the amounts in shampoo/ shower/bath products to 1%.
In addition, SCCS has advised there may be lung inhalation concerns in body sprays such as aerosols. However, the latter is a concern only if the particle size is less than 10 microns.

As Nimue only uses it in some leave-on creams and lotions, there are no safety or environmental concerns.

There are small niche markets who like natural plant oils with zero synthetics, but as a rule, customers prefer the superior quality of creams with silicones as there is better barrier and moisturising effects."
