What is JimmyGel Building Base Gel and how to use it?

JimmyGel is a builder gel in a bottle. It can be used to sculpt anything from long, impressive enhancements to sleek, natural-looking nails. Here's everything you need to know about JimmyGel and how to use it.

JimmyGel is the modern, updated version of a sculpting gel.  With JimmyGel you can skip combining and layering different gels and primers for the perfect result – JimmyGel is enough.

JimmyGel is an all-in-one sculpting gel in a bottle. No need for separate base gels or brushes – just prep the nails, choose a bonder, apply JimmyGel and you're done. The texture of JimmyGel is easy to work with and does not flood the cuticle area so you can focus on sculpting. Only minimal filing is needed - if any!

JimmyGel comes in different shades. The most popular shade is clear, which works well in encapsulating art and creating stunning, glass-like nails and ultra natural-looking nails.

Jimmygel is also available in four shades for quick sculpting of the popular Babyboomer nail style: two soft pinks and two white-toned shades. See all JimmyGel shades here.

What is JimmyGel?

JimmyGel is a sculpting gel in a bottle, developed by Light Elegance. JimmyGel combines the strength of a gel with the easiness and quickness of a brush-on application. With JimmyGel you can create strong and flexible nails – anything from long extravaganza art to unnoticeable, minimalistic natural-looking nails.

Because of the easy brush-on texture, JimmyGel is quick to rebalance and refill. And it can be soaked off with acetone. JimmyGel works wonderfully with any gel polish or color gel and you can also use it with regular nail polish.

What separates JimmyGel from traditional gels and also Light Elegance Lexy Line gels is the multi-functionality – JimmyGel is the base gel, builder gel and top coat in one. All you need is a primer/bonder and everything else is in one bottle.

  • JimmyGel is a sculpting gel in a bottle. Apply it with the brush that is included in the bottle.
  • JimmyGel works as a base gel, builder gel, and top coat. Only minimal filing needed!
  • JimmyGel wears for 4+ weeks and is quick to rebalance and refill. Use tips or forms
  • JimmyGel can be soaked off with acetone. File it down to a thin coat and then wrap the remover on the nail and let it work for 20 minutes.
  • JimmyGel can be used with all gel polishes, color/glitter gels, and nail polishes. Enjoy!

JimmyGel or Lexy Line gels – which one should I use?

So, when there are two product lines from Light Elegance, side by side, how do I know which one to choose? The answer lies in how you like to work: JimmyGel is the easy, quick-fix solution for a nail professional, who loves speedy treatments and wants to get things done without any extra fuss.

Lexy Line gels on the other hand offer countless possibilities to nail professionals who love details and customized solutions. With Lexy Line gels you need to know the products and their benefits in order to get the best result. This requires a bit of studying and testing to get the feeling of each individual gel. Lexy Line gels do give more options to problem-solving but also require a bigger selection of products.

Texture-wise JimmyGel is closest to Lexy Line 1-Step Gel. If you are doing very thin natural nail overlays, use Lexy Line Mani-Cure Gel. This is because natural nails are more flexible than JimmyGel and if the gel is applied too thinly, the flexibility of the natural nail will cause too much movement and the gel is likely to crack. Mani-Cure Gel is extremely flexible and can be applied thinner than JimmyGel – therefore it is the best option for thin, inconspicuous natural nail overlays. JimmyGel needs a proper apex and this can be difficult to achieve if the nails are very short and the customer wants a thin result.

So, if you are a straightforward do-it-now-and-do-it-quick kind of nail pro – you'll love JimmyGel. Very simple! If you need more options for your problem-solving and love mixing & matching, Lexy Line gives this option. And it's actually not a bad idea to have them both at hand and choose the product based on each customer's needs.

How to use JimmyGel?

SM_POST_JimmyGel

JimmyGel is very easy to use and there are only a few steps you need to take.

Pay attention to not applying JimmyGel gel too thinly, because it needs a proper apex to work in an ideal way. If you apply JimmyGel too thinly, the gel is likely to crack, because the natural nail is more flexible than the gel. With the apex in mind you can follow this procedure:

  • Prepare the nails with a thorough P.R.E.P. and make sure the surface of the nail is clean, dry, and that the shine is lightly buffed off. A file with 180 grit is recommended for this.
  • Apply a bonding agent of your choice. Tack is great for customers who aim to rebalance the nails in a few weeks and P+ QDbase is a good option if you know you are going to soak the gel off. Cure Tack in the LEDot lamp for 30 seconds and QDbase for 1 minute.
  • Apply a thin coat of JimmyGel to the entire nail and make sure to seal the free edge. This is called a slip layer and it is not cured. This first layer can be a bit thinner. It makes sure that the following coat of JimmyGel does not run into the cuticles.
  • Apply a line of JimmyGel in the stress area to build the apex. Give it some time, it will level itself and cure for 1 minute.
  • Apply another slip layer of JimmyGel and then build the structure. Remember to use the self-leveling feature of JimmyGel - it will do your work! Lock the gel after every one or two nails if you need more working time, and then cure for 1 minute when you are happy with the application.
  • If you are happy with the way the nails look, apply a top coat of your choice or finish off with a thin coat of JimmyGel. If you need to perfect the application with a file, remove the sticky layer with Light Elegance Cleanser, file the nails, remove the dust and apply the top coat or final layer of JimmyGel.

If you wish to apply gel polish, color gel, or other layers of color, now is the time!

JimmyGel lasts for 4+ weeks, but it's a good idea to always book the rebalance or refill in advance to prevent losing the shape and original structure.
