Why do you need to shake SHELLAC™ bottles?

Shaking is essential for pigments, solvents, and other ingredients. Not shaking the SHELLAC™ bottles properly will lead to thick, unde-cured layers that lift and peel off.

Why do you need to shake a SHELLAC™ bottle?
Every base and top coat from SHELLAC™ and all colors need to be shaken before use. The top and base coat needs to be shaken to make sure all ingredients are blended well.

Any SHELLAC™ color bottle you use regularly needs to be shaken vigorously for at least 30 seconds before use. If you have an older bottle of SHELLAC™ or just bought one, we would recommend shaking it for up to 2-3 minutes. The reason behind it is that any SHELLAC™ color is a combination of pigments, solvents, and other ingredients, so they need to be blended properly to make sure that you are getting the same consistency and quality of color each time and you get to use it to the very last drop. If you skip doing it and decide to mix less, the result would be thicker and thicker consistency of the color, improper cure, and not a lasting service.

How to properly mix your SHELLAC™ bottle?
Every SHELLAC™ bottle contains two metal spheres, whose aim is to help speed up the process of mixing.

Due to them, it is recommended not to turn the bottle upside down, as they can get stuck in the bottleneck. Turning it around or hitting the product against your palms will

also not help. That is why you have you go up and down. In the image below you can see what is the best way to hold and shake your SHELLAC™ bottle:

What happens if you do not shake a SHELLAC™ bottle?
As you use the product, it will become more and more thick. Those color layers will probably under-cure and as a result, the color can wrinkle and even get a rubbery texture after curing that can lift or become very easy for the customer to peel off.

What you can also see is that the texture will continue changing and even the color can appear different, since the pigments are not properly mixed. Here is an example with the Indigo Frock bottle before shaking, after 30 seconds and 2 minutes.
