How do I join an online class with Microsoft Teams?

Online classes are very convenient. That's why we offer many of our classes on the computer, smartphone or tablet. Learn here how you can participate easily.

The tool we use for our online classes is Microsoft Teams because it is one of the most used software for online classes and webinars. It´s extremely easy to use and you can join a class from a smartphone, any computer or tablet. Just choose the option that suits you best.

At Insight Cosmetics all online classes are held within Microsoft Teams. If you sign up for an online class you will receive the access link with your booking confirmation and in a reminder email that you received on the day before the class.

How to join an online class with your smartphone or tablet

1. At least one day before the class starts: Download the free Microsoft Teams app to your device.

2. Run the installation and choose one of the following options:MST_1.-2





a. Log in with a google account (email address) if you have a google account already.

b. Just leave the app and click on the link in your booking confirmation. The meeting will open up in your Microsoft Teams app even if you don´t have a login.

c. Sign up for free with a phone number or an existing email address from another provider.

3. Go to your emails and look for the confirmation email you received when you booked the class. Alternatively, you can go to the reminder email that you received on the day before the class. You´ll find the link in both emails.

Tip: Test the next steps already on the day before the class to see if your system is working fine.

4. At least 30 minutes before the class: To join the meeting click on the link in the email. Your Microsoft Teams app should open the class automatically. You can also choose if you want to share your camera and microphone.

If you have not downloaded the app yet, you´ll be asked to download it now.

The class is an intimate space where you and your peers learn together, just like in a regular classroom. We therefore kindly ask you to always join the class with your video turned on. The educators will appreciate it if they see whom they are teaching.

Your educator will open the class once they are ready. Please call the educator if you are not in the class 5 minutes after it started. You can find their contact details in your booking confirmation. 

How do I switch the front and back cameras?

Just click on the little camera icon. It´s located on the right side of your screen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What to do if my camera, microphone, or sound doesn´t work?

Check if the camera is active. If the camera is crossed out, you need to click on it to activate it.

Now check if the right camera (front or back) is selected. Click on the small camera icon on the right to switch between cameras. 

Microphone:

Check if the microphone is muted. If the microphone icon is crossed out, you need to click on it to activate it.

Sound:

If you use headphones check if they are connected properly and if the volume is turned up.

Click on the speaker icon to check which headphones are connected.

During the class, your educator should be always in focus so that you can follow their guidelines. Please pin your educator's video: Long-tap on the video of that educator until you see a pop-up menu. Then, from the list of options, tap on ‘Pin’.

 

 

 

 

How to join an online class with your computer/laptop

1. There are two ways to start Mircosoft Teams on your computer.

a. You can download the free Microsoft Teams app to your computer. Be aware that the login requires a google email address.

b. The other option is much more convenient. You just have to click on the link in the confirmation email to join the meeting. Alternatively, you can go to the reminder email that you received on the day before the class. Then click on "Continue on this browser".

2. At least 30 minutes before the class: To join the meeting click on the link in the email. Your Microsoft Teams app should open the class automatically OR a new browser window opens up where you have to choose "Continue on this browser".

Before you join the class make sure to check your camera and audio settings:

a. Check if the camera is turned on (arrow on the left side).

b. Check if your audio settings are correct. Click on the little settings icon under "Computeraudio" and the settings will open up on the right side. Check if the settings are correct and adjust the speaker, microphone, and camera settings if necessary.

You can always check and change your settings during the meeting. If the icon is crossed out your camera is not active and the speakers are muted.

You can mute and unmute yourself by clicking on the little speaker icon.

 

What to do if my camera, microphone, or sound doesn´t work?

Most device issues are easily solved. Just click on the three dots in the upper right corner and choose "Device settings".

In there you can check which camera and microphones are activated. Just click on the little arrow next to the device name to change it.

What else is important?

During the class, your educator should be always in focus so that you can follow their guidelines. Please pin your educator's video: Right-click on the educator's video and click on "Pin for me".

 

How can I share my work during the class so the educator can evaluate and give tips?

Some classes require that you have to share your work during the class. Example: During a SHELLAC basis class you create several sets of nails yourself. The educator needs to check your method and results and shares some tips to improve your skills. 

Usually, you can see if the class includes a hands-on part in the class description before you book the class.

The easiest way to share your work is by joining the class on your smartphone:

A tripod or phone holder is very helpful. It allows you to work hands-free during the class and to keep the camera in focus. If you don´t own a phone holder yet have a look at this model.

How to set up the phone holder for a smartphone:

1. Fix the clip to your table.

2. Clamp the smartphone into the mount.

3. Move your smartphone so that you have it in place for a perfect selfie.

4. Adjust the arm with the light as needed.

5. Now you can join the class for the theory part.

MST_156. Once the educator asks you to show your own work, you can move the arm with the smartphone in a position that faces your desk. Change the camera to the back camera and adjust the arm with the light accordingly.

7. After you are done, you can switch your camera back to your front camera, so that the educator can see your face again.

How to show your work from a computer:

If you use a computer or laptop you will either need an external webcam or keep your smartphone at hand to use it as a webcam.

If you want to use your smartphone as a camera, please read the following instructions:

1. Download and install IRIUN here. Select "Webcam for Windows" or "Webcam for Mac" depending on your computer's system.

2. Download the IRIUN app for your smartphone as well.

3. After you installed IRIUN on your computer and on your mobile, open the app on both devices. Check if you can see the video on your computer. 

Your computer and your smartphone both must be connected to the same wifi network

4. Open your Microsoft Teams class. Instead of using your computer camera, you now need to switch to the smartphone camera with the name "Iriun". Just click on the three dots in the upper right corner, choose "Device settings" and change the camera to "Iriun Webcam".

5. Follow the guideline for the smartphone to mount it correctly.

6. Now you are ready to present your work.

7. After you are done, you can switch your camera back to your computer camera, so that the educator can see your face again.
